"When we see land
as a community to

we may begin to

Landowner Registry Program

What is the Landowner Registry Program?

MVC wishes to recognize landowners who are interested in conserving and stewarding their land in the Coulee Region. Through a "handshake" agreement with MVC, the landowner agrees to conserve his or her land to the best of their abilities. In return MVC can provide a survey of the plants, animals and natural features on the property and provide information on stewardship practices.

Can I join the Landowner Registry Program?

Yes, if your land is in the seven county MVC region and contains:

  • Plants, animals, or natural communities typical of the bluffland region
  • Areas of habitat restoration or open space which contribute significantly to your community or region.

How does the program work?

As a participant in the Landowner Registry Program, you agree to continue stewardship and conservation of your land. MVC will recognize your efforts with a sign and information packet about your land. We also ask that you let us know if you plan to sell or transfer the land.

Is this agreement legally binding?

No, it is a voluntary agreement that may be canceled at any time by the landowner.

Will the general public have access to my land if I join the Landowner Registry Program?

No. The amount of public access will be determined by you as a private property owner.

You can reach MVC by mail at P.O. Box 2611, La Crosse, WI 54602-2611, by phone at 608-784-3606, fax at 608-784-0257, or by e-mail at info@mississippivalleyconservancy.org.
