Sugar Creek Bluff
State Natural Area
On the banks of Sugar Creek near the Mississippi River in Crawford County, lies Sugar Creek Bluff, a 110-acre bluffland preserve.
Sugar Creek Bluff was purchased by Mississippi Valley Conservancy in 1999 to permanently protect it from future development. It is open to hunting, fishing, hiking, bird watching and nature enjoyment.
Directions: Sugar Creek Bluff is located in Crawford County
along State Route 35 just south of Ferryville. To
hike the bluff, turn left from State Route 35 onto
Lagoon Road (about 1/4 mile south of County
Road C). Take
Lagoon Road about 1/4 mile
and park along the road just before the water
treatment plant (please do not block the plant
gate or private driveway). We have access
across the private property on the east side of
Lagoon Rd. Take the left trail (not the road)
up to an old logging trail (there will be a MVC
sign). Do not access the gravel road or cabin
area, as that is private property.
