BOOKED FULL! REGISTRATION HAS ENDED FOR THIS EVENT

Join us to explore the moonlit trails of the La Crosse River Conservancy on an evening snowshoe walk. This guided hike, offered by Mississippi Valley Conservancy, is the first of our 2019 Seasons in the Coulee Region outdoor activities sponsored by Gundersen Health System.

The moonlight snowshoe walk will be guided by Conservancy volunteers through a winter wonderland. Participants are likely to see evidence of beaver activity and wildlife tracks. The terrain is flat and should make for an easy, family-friendly hike. A limited number of snowshoes will be available on a first-come-first-served basis with advance registration.

We’re pleased to give people an opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy nature with our Seasons in the Coulee Region program thanks to Gundersen Health System. It’s a great way to relax outside, learn about our beautiful natural surroundings, get some exercise, and be introduced to some of the unique properties that the Conservancy protects for recreational use.

La Crosse River Conservancy is a public-private community-based effort to conserve this unique river valley with its associated riparian forests, wetland prairies, tamarack swamps, and open wetlands with an additional emphasis on low-impact recreational trails and environmental education. It currently consists of 373 acres of land permanently protected by Mississippi Valley Conservancy. The partners involved include Gundersen-Lutheran Hospital, Western Wisconsin Technical College, Cities of La Crosse and Onalaska, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Department of Natural Resources, Hixon Forest Nature Center, private landowners and Mississippi Valley Conservancy.

WHAT TO WEAR: Wear boots and dress in layers appropriate for winter weather. Flashlights or headlamps are also recommended, in case the moon is not very bright.

Please RSVP by Tuesday, February 19, by emailing to [email protected] or call 608-784-3606 ext.6. The Conservancy has a limited number of snowshoes available on a first-come-first-served reservation basis. If you would like to reserve a pair (or more), please indicate so when you RSVP. Snowshoe size is based on body weight, so please include that information and your contact information when you respond.
