Miller Bluff Hike to Celebrate Earth Week
Join us for a guided hike to the top of Miller Bluff on Saturday, April 28, 2018. This hike is part of the Conservancy’s “Seasons in the Coulee Region” series of outdoor activities sponsored by Gundersen Health System.
The hike will begin at the bottom of Miller Bluff and follow an old logging road to the top – a rocky and uphill climb. Once at the top, hikers will have the opportunity to explore the prairie and enjoy the breathtaking views overlooking the Mississippi River Valley. For those who have never hiked up to this bluff from the bottom, this is a great opportunity to explore the trail and learn the way to the top. Hike guides will speak about the geography of this area and how it has changed over the years.
With its large sheer rock face, Miller Bluff is one of the most beautiful and scenic lands that’s permanently protected by Mississippi Valley Conservancy, and owned and maintained by the City of La Crosse, as part of the La Crosse Blufflands Program. The program provides scenic preservation to ensure that the beauty of the landscape is not destroyed by poorly-planned development, as well as protecting rare natural communities such as bluff prairies and providing a marvelous outdoor recreational resource. In addition to leading many guided hikes through the blufflands, the Conservancy frequently leads school and college groups onto the bluffs for hands-on environmental learning and ecological restoration work.
